DEL MUNDO fascinates with the allure of distant places: the view of the unknown, curiosity, the slow narration of a journey. It invites us to discover the world from new perspectives, to marvel and reflect.

The motif plays with clichés about the Humboldt Forum, but captures the essence of its beginnings: an interest in the other, the new, a view of the world. The glass façade abstracts a distant landscape with greenery, azure blue water, and warm light, overlaid with elements of Berlin’s City Palace. This makes it clear that it is not an extension, but part of the new City Palace.

The reflective background surface brings the work to life: the movement of the viewer and the sky constantly create new lighting moods. Time, perspective, and curiosity—central ideas of the building—are intertwined in art and world history.

DEL MUNDO invites viewers to see beyond the concrete and stucco façade: to discover the history of the place, the treasures of the Inner Collection, and the history of cultural treasures.

The glass image has a total size of 4.29 m x 17.44 m and fills the entire design area. It consists of 16 segments, which are barely visible and serve to simplify installation. The maximum depth including the frame is 10 cm, with the aim of integrating the image harmoniously into the concrete facade. The image consists of two glass panes placed one behind the other: the motif is applied to one pane using ceramic enamel paints, while a mirror film is fused onto the other.
